Canon EOS 5D Mark III Announced!

5D Mark III
Yesterday, the long awaited Canon EOS 5D Mark III was announced.  The successor to the widely used 5D Mark II includes many significant upgrades.  Along with these upgrades include a significant increase in price.  The 5D Mark II retailed at , while the 5D Mark III costs a cool $3499 USD.  The key feature upgrades included in the new Mark III include a brand new 22.3MP full-frame sensor, up to 102,400 ISO, a 61-point autofocus system and up to 6fps continuous shooting.

Along with many of the rumors leading up to the announcement of the 5D Mark III were rumors of a new consumer level DSLR the Canon EOS Rebel T4i / 650D.  The Canon T4i is the follow-up to the excellent consumer level Rebel T3i DSLR.

Both the Rebel T3i and the 5D Mark II were the first consumer level and professional or prosumer level DSLRs that provided excellent DSLR Video quality.

Cam Crate Review

Coming as soon as I receive mine! (Estimated May, 2012)

The Cam Crate is a great new product idea that will provide a waterproof, shockproof, dirt-proof and as the products designer calls it, “life-proof” case for a DSLR Camera.  This is great for photographers who want to take high quality photos (and maybe even videos) but are concerned with damaging their expensive equipment.  For around $80, this case is a steal for the adventurous photographer who doesn’t have the $6000 for the expensive weather-proofed professional DSLR bodies and lenses.

If you haven’t heard about the new Cam Crate, check it out on kickstarter.

I’ve already pre-ordered one and also supported this project and you should too!

Project Updates:

UPDATE #1 (Feb. 8th, 2012) : Because of a number of suggestions, the creator of this project is considering adding a few new features to the Cam Crate.  They include:

  • a multi point attachment to allow Cam Crate to be strapped down
  • the ability to connect a carabiner to attach it to a backpack or bag
  • a tripod (1/4″-20) thread to help take steady shots while on the go
  • multiple colors for the interior foam including black, blue and “kickstarter” green
  • a “pick and pluck” foam interior to allow customization of the interior allowing your DSLR and lens combination to fit exactly inside the Cam Crate.

UPDATE #2 (March 23rd, 2012): According to the project creator, he is working hard to get the design completed and ready for production.  He is trying to add all the features above, while maintaining the same pricing structure.  Hopefully he will be able to meet the anticipated delivery deadline of May 2012.  I know i sure would love to have my Cam Crate for all the adventures I have planned for this summer!
